What this covers: How Form uses AI to generate coaching messages, training plans, and exercise demonstrations — and the limits of what AI-generated content can reliably do.
What Is AI-Generated
The following outputs in Form are generated by artificial intelligence, specifically large language models (Anthropic Claude) and image-generation systems:
- Coaching messages — everything the coach writes in chat, including greetings, check-ins, encouragement, answers to your questions, and explanations.
- Training plans — the weekly and multi-week workout programs generated for you, including exercise selection, sets, reps, rest, and progression.
- Exercise demonstrations — many of the animated or still images that show you how an exercise looks. Videos are a mix of AI-generated and human-recorded content, labeled where practical.
- Post-workout summaries, insights, and recommendations — including readiness-adjusted intensity suggestions, progression tips, and pattern observations.
- Proactive coach messages — daily check-ins, streak reminders, and follow-ups are AI-generated based on your context.
The Limits of AI-Generated Content
AI systems can be wrong. They can produce content that is:
- Inaccurate — including biomechanical claims, programming rationale, and exercise cues.
- Inconsistent — the AI may contradict earlier advice or make assumptions that don't match your situation.
- Overly confident — AI tends to present recommendations with more certainty than the underlying evidence warrants.
- Missing context — the AI doesn't see you, your form, your environment, or how you actually felt during a workout. It works from the data you've provided.
- Outdated — the AI's training data has a cutoff date. It may not reflect recent research or best-practice changes.
- Inappropriate for your specific body — especially if you have a condition, injury, or context the AI wasn't told about.
Use AI-generated coaching and plans as a starting point and a thinking partner, not as a replacement for a qualified human coach or clinician. If something feels off, wrong, or unsafe, trust your own judgment first.
Exercise Demonstration Media
Form uses AI-generated images and videos for many exercises. These are designed to give you a general sense of movement, setup, and positioning. They are not a substitute for professional form coaching. Common issues with AI-generated exercise media include:
- Subtle anatomical or mechanical inaccuracies that a human coach would catch and correct.
- Depictions of advanced variations without the progression context a beginner would need.
- Camera angles that can obscure safety-critical details (knee alignment, spine position, etc.).
If you are new to an exercise or recovering from an injury, work with a qualified coach or physical therapist in person before relying on AI-generated demonstrations to learn the movement pattern.
How Your Data Informs AI Output
The AI generates personalized content using information you provide — your goals, training history, injuries, preferences, and workout performance — along with metrics from Apple HealthKit (if you grant access) and integrated services like Strava and WHOOP. The quality of AI output depends directly on the accuracy and completeness of this information. Incomplete or incorrect input can produce plans that are wrong for you.
We do not send your identifiable information to our AI provider beyond what is necessary to generate your response; see our Privacy Policy for specifics.
Human Review
Form does not have a human-in-the-loop step on individual coaching messages or generated plans. Output is delivered to you directly from the AI. This lets us provide coaching 24/7 at a reasonable price, but it also means no human has reviewed your specific plan for safety or appropriateness before you see it. You are the final check.
Our Commitment
We work to make AI-generated coaching safer and more useful by:
- Providing the AI with detailed context about your situation so it can personalize responsibly.
- Rejecting or rewriting AI responses that violate our safety rules (e.g., dangerous load prescriptions, medical claims, extreme restrictions).
- Logging AI errors so we can diagnose patterns and improve prompts and guardrails.
- Flagging AI-generated content inside the app so you always know what's machine-generated.
Acknowledgment
By using the Service, you acknowledge that a substantial portion of the content Form provides is AI-generated, that AI content has the limitations described above, and that you are responsible for evaluating whether any specific recommendation is appropriate for you before acting on it. See our Terms of Service for the broader liability framework.
